January used to be a quiet time for the GIAAC but that’s no longer the case. We are active all year around – and that is evident from all our events/ activities.
Firstly congratulations to our team who braved horrible conditions and did so well at the Hampshire cross country championships. Testimony to our efforts was that I was contacted by Running Fitness magazine whose Deputy Editor attended the event (her daughter was just beaten into third place by Molly Farrell’s excellent performance in the under11’s race). She was very impressed with our performances and will be profiling us in the national magazine in a few months.
We followed that up with the first in our Chertsey House Dental Group Winter Road Race Series – ok not the sexiest of titles – but we had 90 runners on the start line and now hope to break the century for the 10 miler this weekend.
We have also seen athletes beginning to compete in indoor events in the UK.
We also have a number of announcements that we will be making over the next few weeks:
We know that the Island Games in Jersey in 2015 will be a target for many athletes. To assist with the club’s preparation we will be seeking to appoint the Island Games Team Manager in February. We will be advertising the post on the website and invite applications from all interested club members. The selection process will be overseen by club members James Sermon and Sarah Mercier.
We will present our accounts and receive reports from the athletics officer, coaching committee and the president .We will also announce arrangements for the change of the club to a company limited by guarantee including the appointment of a board of seven directors
We are holding our first holiday programme for colts on three mornings of the February half term. More details are available on the colts website
We’ll be sending out more details in February – but a date for your diary. We will be holding the Club awards night on 21st March. This will cover all sections of the club.
