Lewis & Perrio claim overall titles.
Charnwood’s Martin Lewis sealed the overall title with committed piece of front running in the final event of the KPMG Easter Festival, the half marathon.
Run over a largely out and back course from St. Peter Port to the North of the island Lewis hit the front from the gun for a solo win in 74 minutes 27 seconds. Only local runner Peter Amy appeared to be making the chase. By half way Lewis had a 90 second lead over Amy with Birmingham’s Dan Robinson and Torbay’s David Tomlin moving smoothly in third and fourth. Amy appeared to be faltering at the 12k mark and was reeled in by the chasing duo before Robinson broke clear to claim second in 76 minutes 2 seconds followed home by Tomlin less than 10 seconds later.
The women’s race was a much more cagy affair for eventual winner Louise Perrio who initially let the brave Helen Dyke(Poole) go and settled back outside the top 15 positions. Dyke was isolated into the headwinds over the first 6k and by 10k was caught by Perrio. Dyke dropped the diminutive islander again after 12k but could not stay away and was reeled in again in the closing miles as Perrio crossed the line with a 23 second margin in a time of 85 minutes 18 seconds to claim the women’s festival title.
