Matt Loveridge followed on from his cross country victory of last week to lead the 90 strong field from the start and win the opening Saumarez Park 5km of 2016 in 16 minutes 24 seconds.

Jason James (16 min 49 seconds) returned from injury to hold off a strong run from  Tristan Robilliard(16 min 52 sec) for second.

Jenny James continues to improve and was the leading woman but despite a strong finish was agonisingly just 3 seconds outside the 20 minute barrier.   Sabrina Amy was always in close attendance  and was a good second in 20 minutes 30 seconds whilst 14 year old Eliza Mason broke 21 minutes for the first time to cross the line as third female.

Sean Galpin was the only athlete with an age graded performance above 80% but the grading showed the diverse nature of competitors, the other athlete to make big gains was at the other end of the age scale. That girl again – Eliza Mason.
