It was business as usual for Matt Loveridge who after an upset in the previous Chertsey race returned to his winning ways and continued his excellent start to 2016.  In good conditions he was pushed all the way by Tristan Robilliard to a victory in 34 minutes 11 seconds.

In a similarly tight race Chantal Green edged clear in the closing stages and narrowly held off Jenny James with both runners delighted by personal best times.

Loveridge and Robilliard were joined by Jason James and Pete Amy in a group of four runners that led the 75 strong field away from the Pembroke start line. The group reducing down to two as they rounded Bordeaux after 2.5 miles and headed towards the Bridge.   It was not until the North Beach finish came in sight  that Loveridge seized the initiative to pull clear at Salarie Corner and cross the line in 34 minutes 11 seconds, 12 seconds clear of Robilliard who like the winner ran a personal best time in the process.

Continuing the personal best clockings Jason James was a good third but the most delighted runner was probably Pete Amy in 4th, in narrowly dipping inside the 35 minute barrier he may have been a few seconds outside his best but after a torrid time with illness and injury the 35 year old said “Pretty Shocked with that!  I wasn’t expecting to be within 3 seconds of my best but it is also great to see so many personal best times”.

Both Chantal Green and Jenny James have has strong winter seasons and they were locked together until Green finally broke clear in the final mile to take 40 seconds off her previous best and finish in 40 minutes 38 seconds but after allowing a small margin to grow her challenger rallied and James crossed the line a mere 4 seconds in arrears.
