Four of Guernsey’s u17 athletes represented Hampshire at the SEAA u17 Inter Counties Track & Field at Bromley on Sunday 17th July and helped the Hampshire team finish second to Kent in the men’s match and 3rd place overall. The match is scored with two athletes representing their county with 15 points available in the “A” string for a win down to 9 points for 8th, whilst in the “B” string a win secures 8 points down to 1 for 8th.
In sweltering and humid conditions Toby Glass recorded a new PB of 57.4secs for second place in the A string 400mtr hurdles narrowly missing the win in a tight finish.
Hugo Bisson placed 5th in the B string 3,000mtrs in 9min 56.54 secs.
Alex Rowe and Joe Yeaman ran in the 1500mtrs steeplechase and Alex backed up his English Schools race with his second fastest time over the distance in 3rd place recording 4mins 35.90secs whilst Joe Yeaman produced an excellent performance to reduce his personal best by a sizeable chunk finishing 6th overall in the race and 2nd in the B string in a time of 4min 45.64secs which also gains him a Nationals qualifying time.
Toby Glass also contributed a leg to the men’s 4x400mtr relay team who finished 6th.
Kent won the men’s match with 343.5 points from Hampshire’s 328.5. Overall Kent won with 707.5points from Surrey (667.5) and Hampshire 3rd (631.5).
