Millfield BMC yields good early season showings:-

From young newcomers in their first major track event to experienced campaigners there were good results across the board at the Mayday Millfield BMC meeting.

The Alun Williams coached  quartet of youngsters  consisting of Kate Bain, Summer Woodhead, Jack Le Tissier and Joe Le Cheminant all posted good ‘official’ personal bests and raced strongly in what was their first ever experience of such BMC competitions where tightly seeded fields (based on expected time, rather than age) were led off by experienced pacemakers.

Both Kate (800m, 2:30.86) and Summer(1500m, 5:08.62) were the leading U13 girl performers at a meeting that contained many of the leading young runners in the South West region. Joe Le Cheminant was a surprise (and surprised!) winner of the opening mixed 1500m race of the evening breaking the 5 minute barrier for the first time with a big personal best time of 4:59.18. Joe’s elder brother Louis ran a tactically astute race to cross the line first in the 1500m ‘I’ race just ahead of fellow 15 year old Isaac Powers who like Louis made a big dent in his previous best for the distance with a well judged run. Both runners ran just inside 4:40.

Rebecca Toll continues to improve over 800m and took her personal best down to 2:18.91 with a win in the Women’s ‘C’ race. Fellow island games contender Eliza Mason was 4th in the same race in 2:23.25, just outside her own best.

Joe Yeaman has made big improvements in his 800m performances over the last 12 months and after a blistering 57 second opening circuit ran a 3 second personal best to post an Island Games B std of 2:00.47 but was left with the mild disappointement of not dipping below 2 minutes.

At the more experienced end of the Guernsey contingent’s spectrum  Edward Mason looks to be getting his disrupted season back on track and ran a well judged race in the 1500m ‘A’ event to finish within a fraction of his best time with a 4:04.22 clocking for 5th and in the 3000m event Louise Perrio continued her rich vein of form to break 10 minutes for the first time in 4 years to finish 3rd woman in 9:54.45 seconds.
