Island Games Preparation 5000m/800m

David Emery reduced his Personal best by nearly 30 seconds and ground out a well deserved victory to stop the clock in 15:45.8 seconds just 5 seconds clear of Ed Mason in the  island games preparation event.

In a quality field Emery set a consistent pace from the start and churned out K splits of 3:10 to be on schedule for a 15:50 clocking at 4k. His main challengers Steve Dawes, Dan Galpin, Carl Holden and then Ed Mason had dropped off one by one but at the bell Emery’s leading margin was only 3 seconds over Mason but whilst Mason had to work hard to maintain his pace Emery had enough in the tank to draw further clear for a hard fought win.   Dan Galpin rallied to pass Carl Holden in the final straight for third in 6:02.0.

Louise Perrio was below her best but comfortably leading woman though Jenny James continued her improvement for another personal best of 18:11.5.

In the accompanying 800m race Richard Bartram held off Joe Yeaman by a second to dip below 2 minutes whilst Warwick Helps in 4th continued his improvement into his veteran years to dip below 2:10.
