Commonwealth Marathon selectee Lee Merrien again underlined his class to come home over 2 minutes clear of a 130 strong field in the annual Boxing Day Cross country held over the traditional 4.75 mile L’Ancresse “Full Course” (image Phil Nicolle).
In 9th place overall Louise Perrio, like Merrien, was a minute and a half outside her best but still had a 2 minute margin over second placed woman Laura McCarthy.
Several returning students added to the strength near the head of the field with University of Bath’s Dan Galpin (2nd, 26:42) and Richard Bartram (5th, 27:37) faring well in their last race as Under 20s.
Fourteen year Chris Bain was the winner of the supporting 2.75 mile event from 13 year old summer Woodhead whilst back in the main 4.75 mile event Summer’s brother Ethan performed well in his first GAC race and placed 2nd U17 behind Isaac Powers.
Waving the flag for the stalwarts septuagenarians Julie Lawlor, Ian Bloese, Roger Naftel and Terry Greening and octagenarian Ron Harnden continue to defy their ages.
