The athletes who are to be supported by Guernsey Athletics via the Elite Athlete Support Programme for 2018 have been confirmed. The 2018 programme has seen increased investment by the club as it seeks to support its up and coming junior athletes as well as its established senior stars. Funding is offered primarily to facilitate athletes travelling to and competing in UK competitions.
The six athletes who are in the Guernsey team heading to the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games have benefited from funding from the Guernsey Commonwealth Games Association – therefore they will only be receiving a maximum of half of their Guernsey Athletics funding for 2018. At the other end of the spectrum, bottom-year U15 athletes are only permitted to be included on the programme on the lower Academy tier. In addition, any athletes receiving significant funding or sponsorship from other organisations are required to disclose this prior to claiming funding from the club. It may be that they are not permitted to receive their full club allocation in this scenario.
The programme is overseen by Tom Druce, the Athletics Development Officer. The programme has also been agreed upon by the club’s Board of Directors. The full details of the programme are available for download via the Elite Athlete Support Programme page.
