There were strong fields in the long jump and shot putt at the final Intertrust Field Fest last night (Thursday) and some high quality performances to boot.
Jordan Kelly claimed victory and an Island Games Development Standard with his sixth and final jump of an enthralling long jump competition which included a returning Jonny Guille. Both men leapt out to 6.21m, the latter after a difficult year getting over knee surgery making a late season appearance as a marker going into an important winter. Kelly returned to training quietly this summer after focusing on football and Guernsey FC for a number of years – and he now looks a likely Island Games selection for next summer if he continues to build on the good progress he has already made. Guille is technically not eligible for the Development Standard so will be looking towards the indoors with renewed encouragement regarding his physical condition and capabilities.
Eva Bastmeijer took on her second Intertrust Field Fest of the season and the Dutchwoman was comfortably the female victor and surpassed her previous Guernsey performance in the process…she achieved 5.71m ahead of Rhiannon Dowinton’s 4.96. Further down the field there were good performances from Tim Ap Sion, Vicky Hancock and Amy Lilley.
Over at the shot putt, there were PB’s for Steven Marley, Phoebe Page and Josh Powell. Marley impressively cleared 10m with the 5kg implement for the first time with 10.32m. Aideen Le Prevost continued to show her consistency around the 8m mark as she fell just short with 7.92m with the 2.72kg shot.
Tim Ap Sion, having already shone in the long jump (4.81) was then also in form in the high jump. He cleared 1.45m at the first attempt to smash his previous best and record highest height of the evening and confirmed his potential as a promising combination jumper.
