Richard Bartram made a swift transition from his track focussed summer season to show he still had the endurance to mix it over the longer distances as he won the 4.75 mile summer full-course with a well timed finish from Carl Holden and James Priest.
Louise Perrio ran a solid race to lead the women home in 30 minutes 49 seconds, finishing 16th overall of the 71 finishers but there were strong races and personal bests for Becky Le Maitre with 32:11 and Mel Nicolle 32:30.
The leading trio were locked in battle throughout the traditional loop of L’Ancresse common but when they came in sight of the Beach House finish line Holden was clearly stretching his rivals with 800m remaining. The elastic never quite broke though as Bartram edged past Priest with 400m to go and then used his track speed to outsprint Holden with a powerful last 150m and finish in 26 minutes 41seconds.
Chris Gillman was a detached fourth place in a fast time of 27:32 seconds whilst elsewhere in the top 10 placings there were strong runs at either end of the age spectrum with 17 yr old Isaac Powers an excellent 6th place in 27:52 and 55 year old Graham Merfield 8th in 28:35.
11 yr old Charlie Hynes ran strong race to lead home the junior 2.8m ‘Half Course’ field in 16 minutes 49 seconds with Summer Woodhead leading girl 15 seconds in arrears.
