After a break from racing James Priest made light work of damp, windy conditions and led the 109-strong field from the Pembroke start to cross the North Beach finish line over a minute clear of Sam Lesley. (Phil Nicolle’s image shows Priest, Lesley and third placed Will Bodkin already established in their positions soon after the start).
With runners encountering headwinds during the latter half of the race, fast times were off the menu, but Priest’s 34 minutes 30 seconds clocking was his quickest time for the 10k distance in over a year.
Despite his isolated run second placed Lesley posted a personal best of 35:41 showing he is adding real stamina to his already impressive track speed.
Things were a bit closer in the women’s race as Mel Nicolle, in 31st place overall, crossed the line 24 seconds clear of Nix Petit in 34th. Adele Perrot was third.
Simon Ingrouille, now in the V50 category, may have edged Graham Merfield over the line in real terms but the man 5 years his senior topped the age graded results with an impressive 82% rating to Ingrouille’s 78%. Sean Galpin was third. Caroline Creed (V50W) in was fourth woman across the finish line in 52nd overall but was the leading age graded woman in 6th place.
