Following The States of Guernsey’s announcement on Friday 15th May that Guernsey has now moved into Phase 3, Guernsey Athletics can confirm that overarching restrictions prevent any immediate changes in the club’s activities for the time being.
Phase 3 does not allow for people to meet up with more than one other person for socially distanced exercise. Therefore, the current arrangements as previously announced will continue as they are for the time being. These in essence include training inside and outside of Footes Lane – either in the form of 1:1 coaching or solo or paired training. It is highly important that social distancing is strictly observed at all times before, during and after training.
Footes Lane’s “capacity” remains at 6 people until further notice. Today, approximately 20 club members were advised that they are permitted to join the Elite Athlete Development Programme athletes in booking slots on the track. Those club members are comprised of the club’s most prolific volunteers over recent months and a small number of athletes of elite standard who were not included on the Elite/Development list for 2020 due to lack of competing. The management of the club’s use of Footes Lane is being overseen by Athletics Development Officer Tom Druce who aims to get as many club members back on the track as possible during this time. More members will be invited as soon as The States of Guernsey relax restrictions, which will potentially increase capacity.
