For over a decade Guernsey Athletics and Intertrust have brought high level Track & Field athletics to the Channel Islands. Over the years, Guernsey athletics fans have been treated to up and coming stars of the future as well as established Olympic stars. 2015 and 2016 100m victors Reuben Arthur and Leon Reid share the all-comers’ record and both took Commonwealth Games medals home from the Gold Coast in April of this year…whilst at the opposite end of the spectrum former British record holder Montell Douglas and 2012 Olympians Richard Buck and Brett Morse all took victories in their respective events when they competed on Guernsey soil.
2018 promises to be even more exciting in terms of the showcase of stars of the future as England U20’s and Scottish Athletics National Academy are both sending teams to the meeting. It is the first time that an England team of any age has competed in Guernsey and the first time a Scottish representative team has done so in exactly a decade. The England team promises to be a comprehensive line-up across the full programme of events, with the Scots sending a particularly strong male side.
There will be a combined Guernsey/Jersey team constructed specifically to take on the English and Scottish youngsters, with the Channel Island outfit being led by their own U20 star Alastair Chalmers in the 400m hurdles. The rest of the team will be confirmed very shortly.
As well as the two islands’ top seniors, Guernsey Athletics and Jersey Spartans’ younger athletes will be in action in a comprehensive domestic programme of events for U15 and above, whilst the U13 Inter-Insular will be also be formally held within the programme.
England’s support of the event has paved the way for a spread of quality across all disciplines with additional UK guest athletes being added into many of the event fields. 400m hurdler James Forman has already been announced as Chalmers’ first opponent in what promises to be one of the highlights.
The action will begin at 11:20am and conclude at approx. 4pm. Entry has now closed. Entry costs £5 for first event and £3 for each additional event to be paid on the day. Any athletes selected for the CI representative team or U13 Inter-Insular team will not be charged.
Spectator entry to Footes Lane is free.
