Covid-19 Update: Footes Lane

Following extensive work from Guernsey Athletics, Guernsey Sports Commission and the relevant States of Guernsey department committees, the track at Footes Lane was today made available to the athletics club, albeit with a number of strict regulations in line with necessary Covid-19 precautions. However, due to these regulations, during this first initial phase of access, unfortunately only the island’s top athletes on the Elite Athlete Development Programme will be able to access the facility.

Only 6 people (coaches and athletes) can access the track at any one time, and either the Athletics Development Officer or another specified coach must be on site whenever it is in use in order to control the environment and ensure best practice is being met. Coaches and athletes were sent respective 3-page documents outlining the various regulations attached to facility use at this time. Slots are to be requested and booked via the Athletics Development Officer, with no access permitted without confirmation of these slots. Strict social distancing and hygiene measures are in place along with requirement for coaches and/or athletes to operate in pairs as per States of Guernsey guidelines.

The club aim to allow as many of its members access to the track as soon as we can – however, unfortunately at this stage and particularly with the 6-person limit at the facility, this simply isn’t possible yet. The amount of usage is going to be monitored and reviewed on a weekly basis and if there is capacity – and coach availability to oversee the facility usage – then there may be an opportunity to open to more members.

For the time being, we hope that our younger members can continue to play and keep fit with their families and that many seniors can continue to engage with various “virtual” races that are being arranged both nationally and locally thanks to the likes of endurance coach Paul Ingrouille. “Ingy” continues to set sessions for senior club members to undertake, these can be found here. Please continue to bear with us and hopefully we will all soon be back at Footes Lane together.
